How to Get Started in the Sweepstakes Hobby

Entering contests and sweepstakes can be a rewarding hobby. As with anything that produces something of value, it does take work. If you are persistent in your efforts, you can and will win. The following are some pointers for getting started.

1. You will need a source for locating competitions to enter. There are many different types of competitions where you can enter to win prizes. Some of the common names for competitions are contests, sweepstakes, instant win games, giveaways, prize drawings, and trivia contests. There are many sites that list sweepstakes for you to enter. Some sites give in-depth details of each contest and sweepstake they list, while others many simply supply a link to the contest or sweepstake. Which sites you decide to use is your choice based on your preference.
   
   
2. Read the rules to be sure that you are qualified to enter to win. Some sites provide this information, but it is still wise to read the rules for yourself. This type of information provided by site administrators is not always 100% correct. If you are not qualified to enter to win, you will be wasting your time and efforts by entering.
   
   
3. It is wise to utilize a tracking system for your entries. Some hobbyist rely on the site where they enter to track their entries. This is the simplest way, but not the most reliable. One of the drawbacks of relying on a site to track your entries, is if they should close their site, you will have no way of knowing which sweepstakes you have entered or when it will be time to enter again. Also, I have found when relying on a site to track my entries, it is difficult to prevent doubling my entries when the site accidentally lists contests and sweepstakes more than once in their directories. 4. Next, you might want to download a form filling program, if you don't already have one. These programs assist you by completing the common fields on a form. RoboForm is an excellent program to use. They have a free version, as well as, the Pro version. I recommend the Pro because you can save an unlimited number of forms. You fill your form in the way you want it, save it, and the next time you need to fill the form, you can do it with one click of the mouse.
   
   
5. The key to winning is entering. The more you enter the more you will win. Don't get discouraged because it takes a while to get a system going and for the wins to start coming through. When you enter a sweepstakes it may be months before the entry period is over. Once the entry period is complete, the selection process begins. In some cases the rules will state when the winner will be selected and notified. After a winner is selected, notified and confirmed, it usually takes 6 to 12 weeks for the prize to be shipped and arrive. So, be patient and persistent with your entries and the wins will come.
